Hotel Bullitt, the beauty of industrial style in a boutique hotel in the heart of Belfast
Brick tiles and marble-effect stoneware decorate a hospitality location
What are the defining features of a boutique hotel?
It is a hotel with a strong design personality, with an original concept carefully developed in every detail: it is an independent hotel, not part of one of the big chains; and it is in a distinctive location, in an old town centre or a trendy part of town. It often has a rooftop where guests can sip a drink while enjoying a view of the skyline or cityscape.
All these characteristics can be found in the Hotel Bullitt, the boutique hotel in the heart of Belfast designed by Ado Architects.
The hotel was created by renovating and remodelling a 1950s office building: the interiors have theindustrial style of renovated disused lofts, reinterpreted with unusual, sophisticated details. The colour assortment alternates traditional terracotta with touches of trendy shades such as petroleum blue and peach, together with details with metal finishes.
The star of the project is bare brick, a trendy material that is also typical of Irish architecture, from the familiar Georgian terraced houses with their brick facades to industrial buildings.
The Hotel Bullitt derives its strongly industrial character from its brick tile floor in shades of terracotta: the product used is Terramix stoneware by Marazzi. Available in different colours (Beige, Bianco, Marrone and Nero), Terramix was installed in this project in its brown and white variants for the floor and part of the walls respectively.
The architects also chose a Marazzi stoneware for the hotel's rooftop venue: Babel is the largest in Ireland and has a wonderful panoramic terrace with a view of Belfast's roofs.
The terrace was paved with Allmarble20, the extra-thickmarble-effect stoneware specifically designed for outdoor pavings. Ideal for even very heavily used outdoor locations, Allmarble offers slabs of 40x120 cm which can be installed using adhesive or laid dry on gravel, grass or sand.
