NSF/ANSI 51: surface food safety certification

Reading time: minutes

In the ceramic surfaces sector, NSF/ANSI 51 certification issued by the American National Standard for Food Equipment – the independent organisation which certifies products for the food area in private and commercial catering - confirms the quality of the raw materials used to produce the large stoneware slabs.

NSF establishes the requirements a product must fulfil to ensure that it does not shed hazardous or toxic substances – such as arsenic, cadmium, mercury and lead – into foods and is easy to sanitise and maintain.

Marazzi The Top collection slabs hold NSF/ANSI 51 certification, guaranteeing high international food safety standards for surfaces from the collection used as storage and work surfaces, in addition to the product’s impressive array of technical performances.

In fact, Marazzi porcelain stoneware surfaces are resistant to stains, , impacts and scratches, they are frostproof and their shade and structure are unaffected by exposure to UV radiation, they are easily sanitised and durable, and they resist acids and moulds.

What’s more, the NSF/ANSI 51 certification marks guarantee that production formulae constantly comply with the specifications, since the certifying body may perform audits at any time without notice.

NSF, an international standard

The American National Standard for Food Equipment issues certifications of materials on the basis of standards compliant with the GFSI – Global Food Safety Initiative – benchmarks, as well as certifications for equipment for use with foods and non-food compounds.

Certification requirements include the verification and if necessary review of the product’s constituent materials, and its design and manufacture – to ensure food safety and guarantee the ease of cleaning of surfaces and equipment –, as well as food safety performance testing and inspection of the production site.

The Top is also Puro Marazzi Antibacterial

The wide range of The Top slabs is now also available in the version incorporating Puro Marazzi Antibacterial, the innovative antibacterial technology for ceramic surfaces, developed to eliminate up to 99.9% of bacteria and other harmful microorganisms present on the product.
By incorporating the additives that combat germ proliferation in the initial product firing phases, Puro Marazzi Antibacterial ensures a constant action against a wide spectrum of bacteria, in any light conditions, and an exceptionally long surface lifetime, since it dynamically prevents the marks left by organic wear. A solution which confirms The Top’s status as the best choice for all locations where food is prepared and consumed and where high health and hygiene parameters must be guaranteed.
