Quality, Environment and Safety

Quality at Marazzi means quality of product, environmental sustainability and respect for workers’ safety, priorities that have enabled the firm to certify its systems and products. For Marazzi, loving ceramics has always meant respecting the environment, in the sense of the human and natural landscape.
Marazzi is a standard-bearer for eco-sustainable industry and has helped to make ceramic tile production a closed-cycle process. Throughout the entire process, Marazzi has developed a system for the collection and reuse of reject output, process wastewater and the raw materials it contains, and the heat generated in a number of phases. Environmental quality criteria are applied to the entire manufacturing cycle, limiting consumption of natural resources and environmental impact, through the restoration of quarries’ landscape and vegetation, controlled waste management, the optimisation of energy consumption and the recycling of industrial wastewater.
The safety of the staff who work in the plants is another absolute priority: Marazzi performs constant checks on occupational health and safety levels, making any technical and organisational changes required, including through direct involvement of its employees, to whom the company offers continuous educational and training courses to guarantee compliance with the set safety and environmental standards.
In 1994, Marazzi Group was one of the first companies in the industry to obtain ISO 9001 certification which guarantees the quality of the products and services supplied, while its environmental management system has been ISO 14001 certified since 2003. In 2018, Marazzi Group obtained occupational health and safety management certification according to the OH SAS 18001 standard.

Green Building Council Italia
Marazzi Group S.r.l. is a member of the Green Building Council Italia, an association that promotes sustainable, energy efficient and environmentally friendly building, helping to improve people’s quality of life with the LEED® standards and certification

Leed® Credit and Recycled Content
Voluntary LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is the most widespread international protocol for green building and sustainable architecture promoted by the U.S Green Building Council. The LEED® rating system is structured into 9 categories, each of which is organized into mandatory prerequisites and credits determined by the characteristics of the project. Thanks to the environmental quality of the entire industrial production cycle, all Marazzi’s ceramic and porcelain stoneware products are eligible for LEED® credits for buildings, in particular for thematic areas related to Materials and Resources (MR), Sustainable Site (SS) and Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ). Several Marazzi product collections (see table below) are made of 40% recycled material, certified by the ‘Certiquality’ International Certification Institute, and are eligible for LEED® credits in the Materials and Resources category.

Greenguard
GREENGUARD GOLD Certification ensures that a product has met some of the world's most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into indoor air. For further information: http://spot.ulprospector.com

Ecolabel
Marazzi has obtained the EU Ecolabel, a European Union ecological quality mark that
guarantees lower energy consumption in production processes, lower atmospheric
and wastewater emissions, use of substances that are not dangerous for humans
and the environment, use of quarries with correct environmental management,
more effective consumer information and improved waste management. Thanks to
this label of excellence, Marazzi meets the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM)
required for public procurement. At the EMAS – Ecolabel conference in Rome on
1 March 2006, the Italian Ministry of the Environment presented Marazzi with a
special award for its commitment and focus on the environment. Protecting the
environment is a commitment of fundamental importance for everyone, because the
environment is “home to us all”. The tiles or their cuts that remain after installation
are waste that is non-hazardous for the environment and is designed to be recycled.
They must be assigned the European waste code EWC 170103 (tiles only) or EWC
170107 (aggregated with other demolition building material) and can be recycled
as a road surface material, reclaimed filling material or for brick production. The
cardboard (EWC 150101), wood (EWC 170201) and plastic materials (EWC 170203)
that make up the tiles’ packaging must be appropriately recycled. For more
information regarding installation of the tiles, contact the Marazzi sales assistance
service. More information is available on the Ecolabel website: http://www.ecolabel.eu.

EPD (Environmental Product Declaration)
Marazzi Group has assessed its products’ environmental impact throughout their life cycle, from extraction and processing of the raw materials through to the recycling of demolition spoil. The findings of this LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), performed in accordance with the ISO 14040 series international standards, have been published in the Environmental Product Declaration (ISO 14025 and EN 15804), contributing to the attainment of LEED
certification credits.

GPP
Marazzi is registered with Confindustria Ceramica (the Italian Ceramics Industrialists’ Association) as qualified under the GPP (Good Phytosanitary Practices) programme for the control and shipment of ceramic tiles destined for the USA.

QB UPEC
French QB UPEC certification provides the user with a quality guarantee: it
confirms that the products delivered, marked with the QB and UPEC logos,
comply with the prerequisites of the NF EN 14411 standard in accordance
with the current certification rules and that they have the performance
characteristics specified in the CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du
Bâtiment - Scientific and Technical Centre for Building) “Technical Specifications for the
UPEC Classification of Ceramic Floor Coverings”. The four letters refer to:
U: resistance to foot traffic wear
P: mechanical resistance to the shifting of movable and fixed objects
E: resistance to water
C: resistance to commonly used chemicals

CE Marking
Marazzi Group S.r.l has fulfilled all CE Marking requirements for its products. Relevant commercial documentation is available for distributors, professionals and users on the website www.marazzi.it

CCC Certification
CCC certification, introduced in 2002, is applicable to all products imported into and manufactured in china for sale on the Chinese market. The information specified by CCC certification generally concerns health and safety and, regarding ceramic tiles in particular, specifically refers only to tiles in porcelain stoneware with absorption equal to or lower than 0.5%. The certification is issued by bodies specially accredited by the Chinese authorities, which are all based in China.

ISO 9001
In 1994, Marazzi Group was one of the first companies in the industry to obtain ISO 9001 certification which guarantees the quality of the products and services supplied, starting from product design and development through all manufacturing phases.

ISO 14001
During 2004, the Marazzi Group obtained ISO 14001 international certification which sets the prerequisites for the implementation, development and maintenance of an environmental management system, undertaking to control the environmental impacts of its production process with a view to continual improvement.

ISO 45001
Marazzi Group has certified its commitment to the continuous improvement and direct involvement of all staff in the Occupational Health and Safety management system under the OHSAS 18001, now superseded by the ISO 45001 international standard, since 2018.
