The study of colour and the pursuit of geometric compositions inspired by the atmosphere of the lagoon guided the Hus firm’s renovation project for a small holiday home overlooking the marina in Grado.
Nestled between the mouth of a river and a picturesque lagoon, the Grado marina is known as the “Island of the Sun”: indeed, sun and water are the inspiration behind the design by the Villa Guardia-based Hus firm for a private flat in the centre of Grado, Gorizia. The study of colours, particularly yellow and blue, and the search for geometric compositions were the design basis for the renovation of the flat, using the Crogiolo Scenario porcelain stoneware collection, a small square size that reinterprets a historical collection from the Marazzi archive.
Inspired by traditional Mediterranean majolica, the Scenario collection’s strength lies in the fact that it makes it possible to compose different layouts with a single 20x20 cm size through numerous installation options.
In the design of the holiday home in Grado, a decision was made to create a pattern on the floor that recalls the concept of the sea and waves, featuring a sinuous installation in shades of white and blue that results in a seamless transition throughout the flat, from the living room to the master bedroom.
A yellow modular wall allows spaces to be divided up as required, lending colour and personality to the whole flat. To emphasise the versatility and dynamism of the rooms, the connecting wall was created with a full-height weave of Scenario tiles, also in shades of blue and white, which gradually transforms into different geometric patterns that create a play of solids and voids in continuity with the floors.
