Our commitment to responsible management of resources

Environmental sustainability also depends on the responsible use of resources, starting with energy, which is essential in the ceramic manufacturing process. We were the first company in the ceramic industry to obtain ISO 9001 certification for our Quality Management System in 1994 and subsequently ISO 14001 certification for our Environmental Management System. In 2022, the company also achieved ISO 50001 certification for its Energy Management System at the Fiorano production site. In the same year, Marazzi Group was among the first companies worldwide to obtain ISO 17889-1 certification, the first international standard for assessing the sustainability of ceramic tiles through 38 quantitative and qualitative criteria across the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social, and governance.

In recent years, our production facilities have been upgraded with the best available technologies to improve energy efficiency. These energy savings have been recognized through the awarding of White Certificates (Energy Efficiency Certificates – TEE) in Italy, which certify the energy savings achieved through specific measures such as the installation of more energy-efficient kilns.

100% Renewable Electricity from the Grid

In 2025, all electricity purchased from the grid was fully covered by Guarantees of Origin (GO), confirming that our external electricity supply comes exclusively from renewable energy sources.

We purchased 65,049 MWh of renewable electricity from the national grid, covering 100% of the electricity imported from the grid and avoiding approximately 28,699 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

This strategy further strengthens our commitment to the decarbonization of our energy mix.

On-site Solar Photovoltaic Energy Production at Finale Emilia

In September 2025, a new photovoltaic system was commissioned at our Finale Emilia production facility.

During its first three months of operation, the system generated 705 MWh of renewable electricity, of which 686 MWh was directly self-consumed on site, helping to reduce dependence on external energy sources.

Heat Recovery through Cogeneration

In 2025, we recovered 112,735 MWh of heat for our spray dryers thanks to the three cogeneration plants located in Casiglie, Fiorano, and Sassuolo.

This achievement confirms our ongoing commitment to continuously improving energy efficiency and maximizing the value of recovered thermal energy within our production processes.

Reduction in Natural Gas Consumption at the Casiglie Plant

In 2025, the expansion and energy efficiency upgrade of the Casiglie spray dryer was completed, fully integrating it with the cogeneration system.

This project enabled the permanent shutdown of the cogeneration burner, resulting in savings of approximately 639,000 Sm³ of natural gas and a reduction of more than 1,300 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
