A historic 400 sqm villa in Soiano del Lago has been revitalised by Archventil: a bespoke project weaving together pre-existing features and contemporary elements, natural materials, and customised solutions. Marazzi ceramics adorn the kitchen with elegance and material continuity
Nestled among the gentle hills overlooking Garda, a historic villa of approximately 400 sqm has been restored by Archventil. The residence, selected as a holiday home by an international couple, is spread over three levels and accommodates a family with two children. The design honours the original spatial distribution, while transforming the kitchen into the vibrant heart of the home: an open, sociable space centred around a central island. The intervention was founded on a careful consideration of the context and existing conditions, enhancing exposed beams, proportions, and materials, while introducing new elements with contemporary sensitivity. The balance between tradition and innovation thus becomes the stylistic hallmark of a project that unites memory and cosmopolitanism.
The distinctive feature of the villa is the treatment of finishes: the pastellone, a continuous and tactile material, clads much of the interior, from the floors to the bathroom walls and even the pool area, creating visual coherence and tactile uniformity. The exposed beams, treated with sand-coloured lime paint, impart a sense of lightness and luminosity. Within, each space has been designed bespoke: from the living rooms, which alternate works of art with designer furnishings, to the bedrooms personalised through chromatic detailing. The outdoor area retains the same stylistic coherence, engaging in continuous dialogue with the interiors.
The kitchen constitutes the heart of the residence and the setting where ceramic assumes a leading role. The countertop and the niche cladding have been crafted from The Top Stone Look slabs in a Travertino Classico finish, a choice that eloquently conveys the warmth and natural character of stone alongside the durability and practicality of large-format gres. This material fosters an elegant and harmonious tactile dialogue, complementing the natural wood finishes and other interior elements.
“We use ceramic very frequently,” explains Elena Tomlenova, the project’s artistic director, “both in our residential and hospitality projects.” It is a material that combines aesthetic and functional qualities: it allows for the interpretation of various styles thanks to the wide range of finishes available, is exceptionally durable and easy to maintain, while also delivering excellent sustainability performance. The The Top collection in travertine finish allowed us to combine the warmth of stone with the technical advantages of ceramic, creating a welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere, perfectly in harmony with the entire villa.”
